Living in the moment with dogs

As I reflect on the threshold of this new year, a time traditionally brimming with the promise of new beginnings, personal growth, and positive change, I find myself grappling with a shift in perspective. What was once a season of boundless opportunities now bears a weight of contemplation and realization.

In the genesis of our journey with Max and Co Pets, coinciding with the joyous arrival of Levi and Luna into our lives, we became avid followers of two extraordinary labradoodles on Instagram – Copper and Lily (@copper.and.lily). These furry companions, akin in age to our own cherished pups, served not only as a wellspring of entertainment but also as a well of inspiration. Unfortunately, Copper’s mom recently shared Copper’s lymphoma diagnosis. Our hearts extend to Copper’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are directed towards his well-being.

This sobering news stands as a poignant reminder to savor the present moment, to cherish the fleeting instances that define our lives. To stop and plan birthday celebrations and gotcha days, and not trade walks for the pursuit of checked to-do lists.

Here is my promise this year:

I will carve out more time for leisurely walks, embracing the simple joy of companionship and nature.

I commit to indulging in snuggles on the couch, relishing the warmth of our shared existence.

I will plan for and make a big deal of birthdays and gotcha’ days, recognizing them as the milestones that encapsulate the beauty of our shared journey.

I will halt the relentless pursuit of productivity, and replace it with spontaneous play.

Will I be perfect at this? God, no! But I will sure as heck try!
